The Tablet of Order and Chaos, a powerful artifact in the Spiderman universe, is broken and its pieces are scattered across different dimensions. Because the table is made of pure energy, those who retrieve the pieces acquire supernatural powers for themselves. Therefore, Spider-Man must find all of the pieces before his nemesis, Mysterio, does – otherwise, the tablet pieces will be used for evil. With the help of Madame Web’s insight and instruction, Spider-Man is called to fight in four different worldly dimensions in order to obtain the missing fragments and repair the tablet. Play as Spider-Man as he weaves his way through four distinct campaigns of time and reality in order to retrieve the tablet fragments and restore order to the shattered dimensions.
Cultural / Historical Value:
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is a video game inspired by the Marvel Comic, Spider-Man. It is one of many games based on the Marvel comic universe – with a superhero theme. Various people voice the different Spider-Mans in the game, including well-known actor Neil Patrick Harris (as Amazing Spider-Man). Spider-Man’s creator, Stan Lee, provides the narration for the game. The title has received mixed reviews and criticism, but is overall acclaimed as the best Spider-Man videogame to date. This title has won numerous awards.
Teaching / Learning Characteristics:
This game was made purely for entertainment reasons and has little, if any, educational value. However, this game is fast moving and requires that players develop their hand-eye coordination.
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions has moderate replay value. The game has various difficulty levels – from easy to hard. Completing the various levels awards the player with a trophy. Completionist types will want to try the game on all levels – as the story is interesting and fast-paced. Unfortunately, there are no online or multiplayer modes – reducing the replayability of the title.
Marvel comics fans are the obvious choice audience for this game – in particular, Spider-Man fans. However, any gamer who likes single-player, fast paced, action/adventure video games will appreciate this title.
